Robots and Lichens, 2019

ink on paper and various lichens

This work was created from the images and texts I’ve selected from encyclopedias. I’ve photographed and converted them into vectors and reprinted by using a robotic arm. The most important aspect of the work is the plants I’ve pasted on my drawings; lichens. Lichen is a symbiotic organism that is half fungus and half algae. Lichens are crucial for nature since they serve as the primary food source for many insects and animals. They live by holding on to rocks and tree trunks, and by clinging to the rocks, they slowly break it down and turn it into the soil. When they attach to sculptures and monuments, they perform a kind of history-erasure by eroding the sculptures over time.
